Former U.S. President BILL CLINTON is recovering after undergoing heart surgery in New York on Thursday (11Feb10).

The politician-turned-humanitarian checked into Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital complaining of chest pains.

He had two metal mesh tubes inserted into his coronary artery to improve blood flow.

His spokesperson, Douglas Band, says, “Following a visit to his cardiologist, he underwent a procedure to place two stents in one of his coronary arteries. President Clinton is in good spirits.”

Reports suggest the 63-year-old former leader’s daughter Chelsea joined him in hospital.

Clinton underwent a quadruple heart bypass in 2004.
