GANDHINAGAR - Gujarat Police will remain on alert despite the postponement of the Ayodhya verdict by Allahabad High Court till Sep 28, a top police official said Thursday.

The high court was to deliver its verdict in the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit Friday. But the Supreme Court Thursday deferred the high court verdict till Sep 28.

Gujarat Director General of Police S.S. Khandwawala said: “We will not let down our guard.”

He held meetings with key people of both communities to ensure that peace was maintained.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday told the home department and the police brass to ensure peace in the state in the wake of the Ayodhya verdict.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad, Satish Sharma said that the force will be out in strength to prevent communal trouble.

“Additional reinforcements have been brought in, patrolling has been intensified and strict checking is being conducted in hotels to keep tabs on movement of people coming into the city,” he added.
