Fashion greats remember McQueen in London service

LONDON — Members of the fashion industry are gathering at London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral to pay their respects to design icon Alexander McQueen.

Family and friends of the designer are pausing during the British capital’s fashion week Monday to celebrate the life and work of the designer, who committed suicide in February.

The 40-year-old had a history of depression and was devastated by his mother’s recent death.

McQueen became chief designer at the Givenchy house in 1996, but was better known for his own label.

He became famous for dramatic and often hard-to-define creations. They never sold in great numbers, but his was one of fashion’s best-known brands.
