Tangier Island In Limelight

CHESAPEAKE BAY (Gaea Times.com) Tangier island is in the limelight as a result of a series of commercials which were televised on ESPN. The advertising campaign was aimed at promoting the place which is now being frequently searched on the Internet and videos of the commercials are being watched by thousands on YouTube. The videos are also available on ESPN page on facebook. The Tangier island is reportedly located in Chesapeake Bay and according to the Town manager the island has only one school along with 507 residents and there are no cars. The commercials featured watermen going to work and the airstrip in the island.

The commercials on Tangier islands were shot during July within a week by Rob Shapiro of the Martin agency who contacted the Eastern shore of Virginia Tourism commission to work on a campaign on the Tangier island. Technology has brought people together and the limelight currently shining on Tangier island is a contemporary example. The same view was expressed by John Pruitt a retired journalist who grew up on the Tangier island and is the founder of Tangier Pride Inc. a non profit organization. He said that electronic has enabled Tangier island to be in touch just like any other place irrespective of whether it is for good or bad.

The commercials on Tangier island have led to an increase in the tourism activity on the island as millions of people are now aware of the beauty of the island. The advertisement was also aired during Night football on ESPN and introduced the scenic beauty of the place to the people.
