TAMILNADU, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board is keen on using eco friendly and less power consuming appliances in government organizations in the state. It is promoting the use of energy efficient compact fluorescent lights and trying to replace the existing incandescent bulbs and that is why it has decided to implement the much touted Bachat Lamp Yojana scheme in the state. It has selected a Noida based investment firm that deals with green technology for this project and its implementation across the state. It has got the nod from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency as well.

The energy secretary of the state Mr PWC Davidar attended the energy efficiency summit and said that the Bachat Lamp Yojana scheme would be launched by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board first in the Cuddalore District. The CFL bulbs use only one third of the energy used by the conventional bulbs. The state government of Tamil Nadu has also issued a directive asking all state offices and organizations to refrain from using power guzzling lamps and bulbs. The government has taken a number of energy saving measures of late.

Mr PWC Davidar said while addressing the new initiatives taken by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board that the BEE should come up with a transparent labeling system applicable for every type of electrical products. This will help the users understand which products are more energy efficient than others and they will save big time on their electricity bills as well. The overall energy consumption in the state will also go down if the mass embraces CFL bulbs in place of traditional ones.
