JERUSALEM - Envelopes containing suspicious white powder and a threatening letter were sent to the embassies of the US, Spain and Sweden in Tel Aviv Tuesday, police said.

According to Xinhua, two employees, one of them a woman, who handled the envelope at the US embassy, were placed in isolation, police said.

“At this point we have no indication as to whether or not the material is hazardous,” an official said.

The woman did not complain of any after effects from touching the powder, according to an Israeli Army radio report.

Emergency services are also investigating similar incidents at the Spanish and Swedish embassies in the city.

Officials did not reveal what language the letters were written in.
