BANGALORE, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Onam the well known harvest festival of Kerala will be celebrated in southern states of India with much gusto and enthusiasm and the celebrations are on. In Bangalore preparations are in full swing and a number of restaurants and eating outlets are busy preparing their Onam special delicacies. The eating joints generally offer the traditional onam sadya to the customers. According to Folklore Onam is celebrated to mark the homecoming of mythical King Mahabali. The festival lasts for a little more than a week and one can get to see the best of the tradition and culture of Kerala during this celebration.

Those who want to get a taste of the traditional and authentic Onam Sadya in Bangalore can go to the Ranga Shankara caf. The caf is run by a lady named Anju Sudarshan and she offers the customers wholesome and yummy delicacies during Onam. This year the caf will hold Onam Sadya lunch between 1 and 3 pm. To avoid missing the treat people need to call up and book their seats at the caf. Another option for the foodies in Bangalore is The Karavalli. Chef Naren Thimmaiah along with his team prepares elaborate and delicious dishes for the occasion. One can pick and chose from as many as 25 traditional dishes.

Some of the most popular Onam delicacies are sharkara varatti and pal payasam. The majority of restaurants in Bangalore offer onam lunches for INR 250 upwards. It was a Hindu festival in the early days but now Onam is celebrated more as a secular festival linked with harvest.
