Obama says goal in war is modest enough to succeed

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says the goal for the Afghanistan war is modest enough to achieve.

The president says the United States isn’t trying to turn into Afghanistan into what he calls a “model of Jeffersonian democracy.” The goal, Obama tells CBS’ “Sunday Morning” show, is to keep Afghanistan from returning to being a terrorist haven.

Obama says that “what we’re looking to do is difficult, very difficult, but it’s a fairly modest goal”
