DMRC Snag Spreads Scare

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- In a recent development that left thousands of the commuters of Delhi Metro scared the services of DMRC were stalled for more than an hour on Tuesday. The services were affected in the line 2. It was owing to frequent sparks observed at the Rajeev Chowk Metro station at the overhead electrical cable. As one can understand the commuters were really scared by the ensuing smoke and they clicked the emergency trip switch. The train came to a halt. A train was about to reach Jehangirpuri and it had left Central Secretariat station when the flash was noticed.

The DMRC spokespersons said it was not a major fault but the overhead electrical cable’s insulation material developed fault. They also claimed that the situation was handled with due care. Ye sang resulted in as many as 20 trains in the lime getting delayed resulting in a chaos among the stranded commuters at the metro stations. The metro commuters resorted to the other modes of transport namely buses and autos and this resulted in huge traffic snarls at Connaught Place.

The DMRC officials said that the service was resumed after an hour but the delay resulted in slowing down of the regular service. The incident points out the importance of having emergency crisis management at the Delhi Metro to avoid further transport problems. Considering that DMRC is planning to increase the number and frequency of its trains in the near future the safety standard in the metro needs to be boosted. The rush will be even more at the upcoming Commonwealth games.
