ELKINS PARK, PHILADELPHIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The century-old Lynnewood Hall situated at the Elkins Park just outside Philadelphia now stands completely abandoned although it bears testimony to a rich history. The spectacular Neoclassical Revival mansion which comprises of 110 rooms is believed to the last surviving Glided Age building in the Pennsylvania area. Despite its impressive history, the mansion is now in ruins after it has been left unattended for years. If proper maintenance and repair work is not undertaken immediately then chances are high that the iconic structure would only be remembered in the pages of history as its glory would gradually fade away with each passing day.

As Lynnewood Hall faces an uncertain future, people from various quarters have come forward to pledge their support to raise awareness about the present miserable condition of the iconic structure. One of them is Stephen J. Barron who runs a website and is also the creator of a community in the popular social-networking site Facebook called Save Lynnewood Hall, the prime goal of which to make people aware about the plight of the century-old mansion. While talking about the historical structure, Stephen J. Barron noted that it was indeed a tragedy that people drive fast the building without noticing it as they don’t even know its significance.

The Lynnewood Hall was designed by Horace Trumbauer between 1897 and 1900 for Peter A. B. Widener. The iconic building was home to the most significant private art collections of the Glided Age of the European masterpieces as well as the amazing collection that was gathered by Peter A. B. Widener and his son Joseph Widener.
