10 years on, Elian not angry at Miami relatives

HAVANA — Elian Gonzalez says he’s not angry at his Miami relatives who fought to keep him in the United States a decade ago, and offers thanks “that today I’m with my father.”

Now 16, Gonzalez’s first comments to foreign reporters in years came Wednesday night after Cuban President Raul Castro attended a state celebration marking the 10th anniversary of the return of the youth — a castaway who became the center of an ugly international custody battle.

In contrast to Gonzalez’s comments, his father, Juan Miguel, says he remains angry at relatives in South Florida.
