American Airlines jetliner door snaps off at DFW

FORT WORTH, Texas — The door of an American Airlines jetliner snapped off when the plane rolled away from a gate at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the carrier said Thursday.

Tim Wagner, a spokesman for the Fort Worth-based airline, said none of the plane’s 200 passengers on the just-landed flight from Sao Paolo, Brazil, was injured in the incident Tuesday.

Wagner said it was unclear if the crew failed to set the brakes or if the Boeing 777’s brakes had failed. He said the wheels weren’t chocked, which means no blocks had been placed around the wheels to prevent the jet from rolling.

He said the airline has not taken disciplinary measures against any employees.

The plane was sent to the repair shop and remained out of commission Thursday, Wagner said.

He declined to say how much the repairs would cost.
