Probe into plane that skidded off runway

TORONTO — The Transportation Safety Board says it is investigating what caused a United Express plane on its way into Ottawa’s Macdonald-Cartier International Airport to skid off a runway Wednesday afternoon.

Three people were hospitalized with minor injuries after the plane with 36 people on board skidded off the runway in Ottawa. The flight was coming from Washington, D.C.

Transportation Safety Board spokesman Denis Rivard said Thursday that the plane overran the runway and came to rest 500 feet (150 meters) off it. Rivard said the plane’s nose wheel collapsed.

Rivard said investigators have recovered the cockpit and the voice recorder.
