Website set up to help Conn. man who lost arm

HARTFORD, Conn. — A website has been set up to take donations for a 31-year-old Connecticut man who cut off most of his own arm after it became stuck in his furnace for days.

Jonathan Metz has scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center to talk about his ordeal.

Metz’s left arm got stuck in the furnace of his West Hartford home while he was working on it June 6. He was rescued three days later when worried co-workers went to his home and called police.

He used a saw blade to cut off most of his arm two days after getting stuck. Paramedics completed the amputation, and doctors will replace it with a prosthetic.

Donations to help pay for the new arm are being collected by his family through the site helpjonmetz.com.
