Moscow, Jun.3 (ANI): A top Russian security official has warned that extremists from countries splintered following the break up of the erstwhile Soviet Union are on the look out for nuclear warheads to wreak havoc across the world.

Interacting with media persons during a press conference in Yekaterinburg, Alexander Bortnikov, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) chief said that Moscow is keeping a close watch on militants trying to get hold of nuclear weapons.

“We have information showing that terrorists are continuing attempts to gain access to nuclear materials (and) biological and chemical components,” Bortnikov said.

“We are constantly paying attention to this problem,” he added.

Bortnikov also said that the Russian security agencies have foiled several terror attempts on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.

“Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has worked with security forces of other countries in the post-Soviet CIS region to prevent a number of attacks. A number of joint special operations allowed us to foil the plans of terrorists to carry out acts on the territories of CIS countries,” The News quoted Bortnikov, as saying. (ANI)
