Imphal (Manipur), June 3 (ANI): The Department of Agriculture in Manipur hosted a campaign to educate the farmers of the state about latest innovations in the agriculture and processing of various produce.

Scores of farmers took part in the event that was presided over by Manipur Agriculture Minister N Loken.

The farmers, who had performed well in the past season, were commended and honoured with traditional shawls (robes) and gifts in the event organised on May 31.

“Through such events farmers become aware of various opportunities about farming and new applications of technology,” said Binodini, a farmer.

The farmers candidly interacted with agronomists and other experts, and voiced their concern at the shortage of fertilisers due to the economic blockade in the state since May 11.

They urged the State Government to make arrangements and ensure timely availability of fertilisers and other aids to them.

“With the use of latest technology, farmers are now able to farm extensively and gain maximum for their produce. Economy of the state will also improve through this fair,” said R S Khuraijam, a farmer.

The major attraction of the event was the processed agro produce that was displayed at the various stalls. (ANI)
