Internet problems in Germany due to server failure

BERLIN — Scores of Internet sites in Germany ending with the Web address .de were brought down by a crash for more than an hour.

Media reported that the problems on Wednesday afternoon were caused by a crash of several servers belonging to the central registration agency Denic, which administrates some 13 million .de domains.

Denic is also in charge of .de name servers across the globe that translate domain names into IP addresses.

Denic did not immediately comment.
