Nigeria: Detained passenger didn’t come from here

LAGOS, Nigeria — A top Nigerian aviation official has identified the man removed from a flight from West Africa to New York after apparently being added to the U.S. no-fly list during the trip.

Harold Demuren, the head of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, says the man’s name is Salieu Badjan. Demuren says Badjan is a Gambian national who boarded the flight in Dakar, Senegal.

Demuren says officials with Delta Air Lines showed him the flight manifest Friday. The Delta flight Badjan boarded in Dakar originated in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Officials detained Badjan in Puerto Rico after the overnight flight landed there Thursday. He was not immediately charged with any crime.

Gambian officials say they are not aware of Badjan’s detention.
