Colombia election poll favors 2 allies of Uribe

BOGOTA — Two allies of Colombian President Alvaro Uribe lead an opinion poll ahead of the May presidential election.

The survey says former Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos has 34 percent support. Conservative Party candidate and former Ambassador Nohemi Sanin has 23 percent. Green Party candidate Antanas Mockus, former mayor of Bogota, is third at 10 percent.

Results of the survey by Invamer Gallup were broadcast Wednesday by Caracol television news. The March 20-22 poll of 1,200 people has an error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

A court last month barred the popular Uribe from running for a third consecutive term.
