GE gets $1.1 billion in contracts for gas field

FLORENCE, Italy — General Electric Co. said Wednesday that it was awarded $1.1 billion worth of contracts from a Chevron-led joint venture for work on a natural gas field in western Australia.

GE will supply equipment for the refrigeration of liquefied natural gas and five gas turbines to provide electricity for gas treatment and liquefaction facilities connected to the Gorgon gas fields. GE will also provide drilling equipment for an underwater site.

Chevron first awarded a $400 million contract to GE in October for LNG refrigeration and carbon sequestration equipment.

The Gorgon field is Australia’s largest-known gas deposit, holding about 40 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Chevron has collaborated with companies including ExxonMobil and Shell to operate on the field.
