Germany’s Henkel Q4 net profit down 80 percent

BERLIN — Henkel AG, the maker of Dial soap and laundry detergents, says its fourth quarter profit has slipped 80 percent from last year because of the sale of its stake in Ecolab.

The company said Thursday that it earned €170 million ($230.3 million) in net profit in the October-December period compared with €863 million a year earlier.

Sales also dipped slightly, to €1.02 billion compared with €1.06 billion in the last three months of 2008.
