LONDON - A man accused of raping a woman walked free from court after convincing a jury that he had mistakenly stumbled into the wrong bed.

Haydor Khan, from Farnham, said he had undressed in the dark and was so drunk that it was only when he was having sex that he realised he was with the wrong woman, reports the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old restaurant waiter believed he was with his 19-year-old girlfriend until he glimpsed the face of the woman, whom he had met in the hotel bar earlier, it was revealed.

He snatched his clothes and fled, taking the 40-year-old woman’s mobile phone with him.

“Bloody hell. I’ve just had sex with someone old enough to be my mum,” the court was told that when he realised what had happened Khan exclaimed.

Khan told the two-day trial that he and his girlfriend, Nicola Wood, were staying in the Royal Arms Hotel in Farnham, Surrey, on August 31 in 2010.

Wood had spent the evening drinking in her room as she was not feeling well. He said he intended to sleep with her but she decided that she was too ill for sex.

Khan told the hearing he then went to another room for a shower. After that, as he was so drunk he stumbled into the complainant’s room by mistake.

The alleged victim told the court, “I had been asleep and I woke up to find this man on top of me.”

Meanwhile, the prosecutor Toyin Salako said the case was simple, “He entered the complainant’s room while she was asleep. He raped her and then left taking her mobile phone.”

Giving evidence, the complainant said she had earlier got into conversation with Khan at the hotel and had found him ‘arrogant and controlling’ towards his girlfriend.

She insisted, “I would never have consented to having sex with him.”

But Khan stressed that the alleged rape involved a genuine case of mistaken identity. (ANI)
