KARNATAKA - Hundreds of Christians in Bangalore gathered for a candle light vigil on Monday to protest against a probe report on church attacks.

The group criticized the findings of the Justice Somashekar Commission that gave a clean chit to the prime suspects.

The Archbishop of Bangalore, Rev. Bernard Moras said: Hindu groups such as the Bajrang Dal, Sri Ram Sene, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Sangh Parivar outfits were responsible for the attaks but commision’s final report gave everyone a clean chit.

He read the extracts from the reports that said: “This is a clear case of our mischief in the church amounting to vandalism, it is not done by Sangh Parivaar or Hindus, BJP government is totally innocent and has nothing to do with the incident to any extent,”

In 2008, several cases of attacks on churches in Kanara, Chikamagalur, Shimoga, Hasan, Mysore and Bangalore registered and members of Christian community blamed Hindu zealots for these attacks.

Bharatiya Janata Party, which rules in Karnataka, contended that the attacks on Christians were politically motivated to discredit the state government. (ANI)
