Hamid Ansari to confer National Geoscience Award

NEW DELHI - Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari will confer the National Geoscience Award here today to various organizations working in the field of basic and applied geoscience in the country.

Minister of States of Mines Dinsha J. Patel will preside over the function.

The National Geoscience Award is a prestigious award of Ministry of Mines in the field of basic and applied geosciences.

Awards are given in sixteen fields covering mineral discovery and exploration, mining technology, mineral beneficiation, sustainable mineral development, basic geoscience and applied geoscience including geo-environmental studies and disaster management

The awards carry a certificate, citation, trophy and a cash prize.

To encourage young talent “Young Researcher Award” has been introduced from this year.

The selection of the awardees is done by award making authority, chaired by the Secretary (Mines).

Professor Ashok Sahni would be honoured with the National Geoscience Award for Excellence-2009 for his lifetime achievement. (ANI)
