MUMBAI - Many people are feared stuck on the ship, INS Vindhyagiri, which caught fire this morning near the naval dockyard in Mumbai.

The ship had collided with another vessel, MV Nordlake, on Sunday.

However, reports said a fire broke out in the engine room of INS Vindhyagiri as a result of the collision. Firefighting operations continued for several hours thereafter, even after she was moved to the dockyard.

There were reports that the Naval dockyard could not control the fire and had sought help from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, which sent eight fire tenders and four jumbo tankers to douse the fire.

A tug has also been sent for rescue operations.

According to the officials, INS Vindhyagiri was returning to the dockyard while merchant vessel Nord Lake was leaving Mumbai harbour when the two collided at Sunk Clock in the harbour. (ANI)
