LONDON - Senior Taliban commanders could be preparing to enter peace talks to end their insurgency in Afghanistan, it has been revealed.

According to the Daily Express, Afghan president Hamid Karzai has offered to hold reconciliation talks with Taliban fighters, and in recent months, a number of “feelers” have been received from insurgents.

Last night a Foreign Office official warned that no big breakthrough was expected imminently but said Taliban figures involved in possible peace talks were “sufficiently senior” for the move to be significant. (ANI)
