KOLKATA - Women activists and supporters of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) protested against rising inflation in Kolkata.

Slamming the government on the issue, CPI-M member Kalki Bose, said: ” Within one year, they increased (the price of) petroleum products 11 times and essential commodities’ price are also increasing at skyrocketing speed.”

“And when (price of) petroleum commodities (is increased) then all the essential commodities are affected. So price rise is the main burning issue today. So everybody is protesting and women are worst sufferers of price rise,” Bose said.

India is beset by rising food and fuel prices, and the central government has drawn flak for failing to check inflation, which has hit hundreds of millions of poor people.

Food makes up about 14 percent of the wholesale price index, while fuel contributes to about 15 percent. (ANI)
