Richard Winters Passes Away

NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- Former Army officer of United States Major Richard “Dick” D. Winters breathed his last on January 2 in central Pennsylvania, his family friend announced the news on Monday. Retired Army Col. Cole Kingseed, who was a close friend of Major Richard Winters said that the officer was laid to rest at a private funeral ceremony on Saturday. The former commander of Company “E” would have turned 93-years-old this February. His family friend William Jackson said that the army officer lost his prolonged battle with Parkinson’s disease and passed away.

William Jackson expressed his condolence at the unfortunate demise of his friend. In his interview, he said that Ricard Winters was one of his “heroes” and he used to look up to his friend for his courage and dedication. Major Richard Winters was the central figure of the book and miniseries “Band of Brothers”. After the announcement of his death, his colleagues paid tribute to the veteran soldier. Most of his colleagues said that Major Richard Winters was known among his friends and his army members as a symbol of “great leadership”. William Guarnere, who worked with Major Richard Winters in some of his missions expressed his condolence at the sad demise of the army officer and said that he was an epitome of a great leader.

Edward Heffron, another member who worked under the veteran officer was all in tears when he said that Richard Winters was one of the greatest army officers and soldiers that he has worked under. William Jackson told a reputed media source that Major Richard Winters‘ family would hold another memorial service for public, sometime in February or March. William Jackson revealed that the news of his friend’s death was withheld at Richard Winters request.
