J-K villagers repair road after unfulfilled assurances by the state Government

SIPPIN - Residents of Jammu and Kashmir’s Sippin village have started repairing roads after unfulfilled assurances by the state Government.

Villagers on Sunday said they approached the concerned authorities for the road construction but the government did not show any interest. So, the villagers came forward and started constructing the road themselves.

“This is a broken road, like a jungle road. The government is not taking any stock of it and is not taking any action. So, villagers have started the construction work of the road but the authorities are still least bothered to help us,” said Abdul Majeed, a resident.

“The poor people living here are now helpless, so we raised funds from our pockets and are constructing this road,” he added.

K. L. Kaul, Executive Engineer of Road and Building department of Anantnag district, said they have taken up a project for the construction of the road. Earlier, they were not able to complete the construction due to some problems but now they are confident that they will complete the work.

“We are immediately starting a project on Sippin road because the road is water logged and ditches have been formed. So, to avoid these we are taking up a project immediately,” said Kaul.

“Last time, we were not able to complete the work because the residents formed two groups there, one wanted the drain to be made from there but the other didn’t want. So, we were not able to complete the work. And now we are confident that we will complete this work in this season,” he added.

The villagers collected 4,443.46 dollars from their pockets and have taken up the task of constructing the road.
