STORY: Police in Mumbai city of India’s western state of Maharashtra informed media on Wednesday (December 15) that they have arrested a suspected spy from Pakistan.

Mumbai police said that the accused naming Javed Abdul Gafoor Mozawallah (28), a local resident was arrested on charges of spying for a foreign country. He was produced before the court and police took him on remand till December 20.

Himanshu Roy, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Mumbai said that accused was indulged in suspicious activities.

“Javed Abdul Gafoor Mozawallah, a resident of Byculla, was indulging in suspicious and anti-national activities. On receiving this information, the CIU (Crime Intelligence Unit) operations lead by Inspector Sawant and others started working out this information in details,” he said.

Roy also revealed that accused had in his possession very sensitive manual of Islamic instructions along with incriminating documents and contact list of top defence establishments across the country.

“On conformation that there is likely to be found material evidence his residence was raided and searched, where in incriminating material relating to anti-national activities were found in his possession,” he said.

He also said that he was allegedly in touch with a foreign contact at the Pakistan embassy in New Delhi.

“He traveled to Pakistan. No doubt some exchange must have happened there also. So, we are working out these things,” said Roy.

According to the media reports, the accused is a member of Inter-Services Intelligence (Pakistan) sleeper cell and was trained in civil aviation course from Mumbai.
