NEW DELHI - Ahead of the second anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy J. Reomer on Thursday said the United StateS will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with India to fight terrorism.

In a statement, Reomer said: “We will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with India to fight terrorism and remain united in our determination to give our people a future of security, dignity, and opportunity.”

“We will never forget the heartbreaking images of 26/11, nor will we forget the heroics of the many men and women who risked their lives to save others. The resolve and the resilience of the Indian people in the aftermath of those attacks stands in stark contrast to the savagery and brutality of the terrorists,” he added.

The US Ambassador further recalled President Obama’s recent remarks during his India visit, when he had said: “Mumbai is — and will be remembered as-a symbol of the incredible optimism and energy that defines India in the 21st century.”

“Today, the United States and India are working together more closely than ever to keep our respective people safe,” he added.

India and the United States had in July 2010 signed an historic memorandum of understanding on counter terrorism cooperation that includes new collaboration in areas such as maritime security, forensics training, megacity policing, and a wide range of other areas of cooperation. (ANI)
