SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA (GaeaTimes.com)- Lee Myung-bak, the president of South Korea arranged for emergency meetings with the country’s top security and economic experts post the attack of North Korea. Yesterday North Kora bombed an island belonging to South Korea leading to some casualties and injuries. The incident has prompted USA the long time ally of South Korea to react sharply. The South Korean government has vowed that the security will be beefed up across its border region. Just after the incident the foreign minister of China, main ally of North Korea canceled a visit to the capital of South Korea. Kim Young-sun the Foreign Ministry spokesman of South Korea indicated that this will strain the relations of the countries. Seoul will ask for more clarification from Beijing regarding the sudden cancellation of visit.

Even after the attack of North Korea, USA and South Korea said that they will carry on with their planned joint naval maneuvers in the Yellow Sea. This joint exercise which will start Sunday can provoke Pyongyang further. The Chinese government is also not happy about the joint exercise. North Korea on its part has said that it will resort to more “strong physical retaliatory blows” if it witnesses “reckless military provocations” from the neighboring country.

During the yearly South Korean military exercise which took place on Tuesday the Yeonpyeong island was attacked by North Korean artillery units. South Korea also fired back but the news of any casualty on the North Korean side has not been reported. The tension between the two countries has shot up after the attack. The USA is in no mod to budge from its stance.
