LONDON - Prince William honoured his late mother by giving her engagement ring to his fiancee Kate Middleton.

The royal gave Middleton the same oval sapphire and diamond ring that his father, Prince Charles, had given Lady Diana Spencer when they became engaged in February 1981, reports the Daily Mail.

Costing 28,500 pounds, Princess Diana chose it from a selection presented to her by the then Crown jewellers Garrard of Mayfair.

William, who eventually inherited the ring from his mother’s 21million pounds estate, showed the family heirloom was priceless to him by choosing it for his fiancee.

“It’s very special to me. As Kate’s very special to me now, it was right to put the two together,” he said.

“It was my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement, and the fact that we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together,” he added. (ANI)
