TOKYO, JAPAN (GaeaTimes.com)- DoCoMo Inc. announced today that next month it will start a new data communication service that will use a new high speed technology called ‘Long Term Evolution’. The company has claimed that the new service will allow data transmission at 10 times the speed of the current technology (3G) in Japan. Some experts view it as a replacement for the present 3G network.

The rivals of DoCoMo have also reacted to the announcement and announced their own LTE service very soon. DoCoMo said that the company will implement the service from December 24. The company is yet to announce the exact rate for the service but the officials assured that the prices will be kept reasonable and competitive for the new service. One source claims that DoCoMo will charge the flat rate of $80 (In Yen) per month for the service. Going by the source, the LTE service would cost 9% higher than 3G but much higher speeds of data transmission has also been promised.

The present DoCoMo network in Japan based on the WCDMA 3G technology offers speeds of upto 7.2Mbps. The LTE network however claims to have speeds upto 75 Mbps which could be an almost groundbreaking technological advancement for the network. The new network, however, will cover only 3Gb of data transmission per month at the monthly rate. Though experts claims that it is enough to satisfy 99% of the users, others will have to pay an equivalent of $32 for additional 2Gb. In spite of the expense, a number of people all over the world are waiting for the unveiling of the new service which is a next step in information technology.
