JHARGRAM - About 2000 old women, hailing from West Bengal’s Paschimi Medinipur District, staged a rally to protest against the non-payment of their pension dues.

“I am old and alone. I manage to get food after selling Sal leaves (used for rolling indigenous smoking tobacco reefers known as Beedis). Next year I wouldn’t be able to collect leaves then how I will manage my food,” said Anju Mahata, a villager, on Wednesday.

Before the protestors could enter the office of the Sub Divisional Officer at Jhargram, the police prevented them from proceeding ahead.

They returned to their homes after officials assured them that their grievances would be looked into. (ANI)
