MIRANSHAH - At least six militants were killed in the latest US drone strikes in Pakistan’s North Waziristan region.

A senior security official confirmed that US drones fired missiles into a compound and on a vehicle in a village, the Dawn reported.

“The identities of those killed in the strike are not yet known,” the official said while speaking on condition of anonymity.

“There are still four drones flying over Datta Khel,” he added.

Six missiles were fired at the compound and the vehicle, injuring another five militants, a local security official said, adding that the compound belonged to a local tribesman.

Another security official disclosed that the strike took place in Sunzalai village near Datta Khel, a town 45 kilometres west of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan- a renowned hotbed of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda linked militants.

The CIA launched at least 20 drone attacks, killing around 120 people in Pakistan in September, the highest number of attacks during a single month, and more than twice the number in a typical month.

But the CIA’s campaign has also raised concerns that the drone strikes are fuelling anger in the Muslim world. The Times Square bomber had told a judge that the CIA drone campaign was a factor that led him to attack Americans. (ANI)
