PORTLAND (GaeaTimes.com)- This is something that every resident of Portland wait for all through out the year. The annual Portland Marathon 2010, is about to begin today on October 10, Sunday. This annual event has been recognized as one of the top ten marathon events and local road race events in United States. The marathon mostly takes place in the pleasant month of October.

Portland Marathon 2010 was first started in the year 1971. With a legacy of more than 28 years, it is now popular enough to invite more than 9000 runners every years, some of who are professional athletes. The marathon covers a distance of 26 miles, 385 yards, and it takes about 5 to 6 hours to finish the race. The course of this race covers 31 turns in total, out of which, 20 turns are more than 90 degrees. The event begins and end at charming Chapman/Lownsdale/Schrunk Parks.

Portland Marathon 2010 will cover a course of uneven terrain. The first few miles will be on the hilly side that would lead to Waterfront Park. From the sixth mile till the 12th mile, the course will cut the north west section of the town, which is located on the plains. It will cover beautiful places like Forest Park area, St. John’s Bridge and Willamette River, in the last few miles of Portland Marathon 2010. Like every year, even this year the anticipation among the participants is skyrocketing.

Portland Marathon 2010 has gone through a good deal of preparation to avoid traffic congestion and parking problems. The authorities have alloted separate parking lots for the event, so that the viewers and spectators can enjoy the event comfortably.
