MIRANSHAH - The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the arson attack on the NATO tankers near the Akhtarabad terminal in Quetta.

“We claim responsibility for attacking and torching NATO tankers in Quetta today,” the Daily Times quoted Tehreek-e-Taliban Spokesman Azam Tariq, as saying.

Disclosing that local militants carried out the attack on the tankers, he vowed further attacks on the convoys carrying supplies for NATO forces in Afghanistan as well as security force personnel.

“We will further intensify attacks with the intensification of US drone strikes on us,” he warned, adding, “We have ordered (local militants) to kill all security force personnel and attack NATO containers that they come across.”

Tariq also stated that the Pakistan government had “made our job easy by stopping NATO tankers and supplies.”

Earlier this week, unidentified assailants had torched over 20 NATO supply trucks in Quetta.

Meanwhile, as the NATO supply convoys stand idle in Pakistani territory after remaining suspended for a full week now, there have been concerns about their safety following three incidents of attacks on such vehicles. (ANI)
