Fed chairman to speak to college students in RI

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will answer questions from Rhode Island college students at a town-hall style meeting.

College students from around the state were selected by their schools to participate in the Monday afternoon event. The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Rhode Island says most of the students are in business-oriented areas of study, such as economics or finance.

Late Monday, Bernanke is scheduled to deliver remarks to a gathering of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council, a taxpayer watchdog group. Gov. Donald Carcieri (kuh-CHEER’-ee), Senate President M. Teresa Paiva-Weed and House Speaker Gordon Fox will also speak at that event.
