DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Sari the traditional attire for the Indian women has been the standard dress code for the major Indian airlines female staff for decades and Air India is not an exception. However, it looks like the female staffs and air hostesses working in the airline are going to say good bye to the sari finally and embrace western attire for work. The news has been admitted by an official involved with the civil aviation ministry. The main reason for this change is that a lot of air hostesses find working in sari cumbersome. They are of the opinion that Salwar Kameez is much more comfortable to work. However the dress switchover may still require some time.

The domestic carriers in India prefer western attire for their female staffs as opposed to Sari. However, there is no reason to think that no airline will use sari in near future as the dress for the air hostesses. Three airlines namely- British Airways, SriLankan Airlines and Biman (of Bangladesh) will keep sari as the attire for their women staff. However, in case of the British Airways only Indian crew members are required to wear sari as it has been reported. The Air India staff may also get skirts and tops as dress instead of Salwar Kameez.

The air hostesses of Air India however are more comfortable with Salwar kameez than skirt and sari. However, the change is going to cost the airline a lot and therefore it would require some time to be implemented. A designer has to be roped in who will finalize the dress for the airline staff.
