Dubai ruler: Emirates ordering more planes soon

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Dubai’s ruler says the city-state’s fast-growing Emirates airline is planning a large aircraft order at next month’s Farnborough International Airshow.

Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s official website says the ruler made the comments in an interview with CNN set to air Friday.

The carrier confirmed new orders are planned. It didn’t provide details.

Emirates earlier this month announced an $11.5 billion order for 32 more Airbus A380 planes, on top of the 58 it had previously requested.

Sheik Mohammed also told the network in a clip posted online that the recession is a “challenge” his sheikdom and the broader United Arab Emirates federation are dealing with.
