Ahmadinejad warns opposition, blasts Israeli raid

TEHRAN, Iran — The Iranian president has warned the country’s opposition against straying from the path of the founder of the Islamic Revolution and slammed Israel for a deadly raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke before tens of thousands gathered on Friday at the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini for a ceremony marking the 21st anniversary of his death.

Ahmadinejad told the crowd that those “who deviate from the Imam’s path will be banished by the people.” The speech comes days ahead of the opposition’s mass rally planned on the anniversary of last June’s disputed presidential election.

Ahmadinejad also said the Israeli commando raid on the international flotilla off Gaza’s shores was “barbaric” and called for dismantling the Zionist regime.
