Sword-wielding attacker kills 1, hurts 2 in Calif.

LOS ANGELES — Police say a sword-wielding attacker killed one person and slashed two others during a late-night confrontation in a Los Angeles suburb.

Officer Cleon Joseph says a man was asked to leave a San Fernando Valley commercial building at about 10 p.m. Tuesday before he grabbed a sword and stabbed three people.

One person died a short time later at Northridge Hospital Medical Center. The conditions of two other victims at the hospital haven’t been released.

Detectives haven’t disclosed the reason for the attack. It occurred in an industrial area near Van Nuys Airport, the busiest general aviation airport in the U.S.

Joseph says the attacker fled in an SUV and has eluded capture.
