US bank in Dubai killing ties cards to partner

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The U.S. bank linked by Dubai police to the slaying of a top Hamas commander says prepaid credit cards allegedly used by the hit team were provided through partner company Payoneer.

MetaBank says its procedures did not flag the card users as suspicious.

The Storm Lake, Iowa-based lender says an internal review of compliance with bank and regulatory requirements has found no signs of wrongdoing.

Hamas operative Mahmoud al-Mabhouh was found dead in a Dubai hotel room Jan. 20. Dubai blamed the Israeli Mossad.

Police claim some of the hit team used credit cards obtained with fake passports to pay for plane tickets and Dubai hotels. It says most of the cards were issued by MetaBank through its New York-based partner Payoneer.
