LONDON - Nadine Dorries, MP for Mid Bedfordshire, who lived on benefits in a council flat for a TV show, was caught hiding cash in her bra.
The controversial MP was sent to stay with jobless sisters Rena and Renisha Spaine at the two-bed flat they share with their eight kids.
The social experiment by a Channel 4 reality television show was designed to help MPs understand how poorer sections of society live, reports the Telegraph.n the show, the leaders are asked to survive for a week while spending no more than 64.30 pounds - a week’s job seekers’ allowance.
“I know what I have to live on,” the 52-year-old MP tells the cameras as she begins her stint. “Of course I do. I wouldn’t be much of an MP if I didn’t, to be honest.”
However, after spending only one night in the flat it emerges that she has broken the rules by hiding a 50-pound note down her bra.
Explaining the moment at which the MP’s hidden cash is revealed, the host tells the camera: “Last night after everyone had gone, she [Mrs Dorries] comes into the bedroom and puts her hand into her bra and pulled out 50 pounds.”
Mrs Dorries wrote in her blog: “When the camera crew left on the first night, I told my host I had the money. I didn’t have to, she would never have known.”
Later Mrs Dorries confessed that she has stowed away some extra money somewhere safe.
“I did, I did have money in my bra,” she says.
“I brought it to get things for the kids. I’ve got no intention of spending it on me.” (ANI)
